KELY Support Group (“KELY”) is a small but growing nonprofit that has been serving Hong Kong youth for almost 30 years. We believe that every young person can reach their full potential, overcoming the many external and internal challenges they face. Our mission is to equip young people with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to support themselves and each other, especially related to mental health and well being, drug and alcohol awareness and positive youth development.
COVID 19 has presented unique opportunities for KELY from expanding and enhancing our scope of service provision to youth and new models of funding to ensure long term sustainability for the organisation. In light of these changes, we are seeking a Deputy Director with a passion and commitment to seeing young people facing today’s multi-faceted challenges in Hong Kong supported and thrive.
This new senior position, directly reporting to the Executive Director (ED), will be part of KELY’s leadership team, and will play an integral role in key growth initiatives and managing overall operations. We are looking for an exceptional individual, who is self-motivated, positive and will work well with our dedicated, diverse and youthful team. The successful candidate will have demonstrated thoughtful knowledge about issues and interventions related to youth well being, and experience with building systems and leading projects in a growing organization. They will enjoy working in KELY’s fast-paced culture, producing high quality services and collaborating through diverse partnerships.
Drive strategic development of KELY’s fundraising, marketing and communications functions
Develop and oversee implementation of annual plans for KELY fundraising and the overall marketing and communications function
Propose and build improvements to KELY marketing, communications and fundraising systems, referencing local and global best nonprofit practices and leveraging available pro bono and low bono external resources
Motivate and train team of 3-4 staff (direct line management)
Design and lead specific fundraising initiatives each year
Deliver on mutually agreed upon annual fundraising targets
Initiatives may include campaigns for general, undesignated funding and/or applying for institutional program grants
Oversee general corporate functions and reporting
Working with the Office Manager and retained professionals (e.g. auditors, lawyers), monitor, review and improve KELY HR/Fin/IT/Admin/Legal systems and processes
Suggest improvements for KELY’s risk management, corporate governance, data collection, analytics and reporting
Produce regular financial, HR and management dashboard reporting
Support ED in running annual planning and budgeting
Support ED to prepare for board meetings and annual general meeting, and to meet
all regulatory and compliance reporting requirements
Actively participate in KELY’s overall senior leadership work
Contribute to the strategic development and implementation of KELY’s talent management, to build a highly engaged and professional team and workplace culture that is empowering, inclusive and supportive
Build and maintain strong relationships with external KELY partners
Continuously learn about topics and practices related to KELY’s mission and provide input to KELY’s thought leadership and communications content
Authentically and effectively represent KELY within the nonprofit and youth sectors
As required, serve as the Acting Executive Director and temporarily cover the responsibilities of the Executive Director
Qualifications and Attributes
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in public administration, business, or a related field.
Applicants with a background in social work, public health or psychology are also
encouraged to apply.
Required fluency in Cantonese and English.
A minimum of 8 years of work experience, with demonstrated leadership and management effectiveness, ideally, in a non-profit organization or foundation.
Track record of assuming increased responsibilities, and executing multiple tasks while balancing multiple priorities concurrently.
Ability to think strategically, to challenge the status quo, and to navigate and adapt when there is uncertainty and ambiguity
Dynamic and flexible, with keen interest in continuous learning and growing
Experienced with verbal and written executive communications.
Results-oriented with proven ability in managing projects, setting priorities, planning, handling complexity, and adept at problem-solving.
Highly values quality, and attention to detail.
Experienced people manager with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, transparent, direct and fair, and ability to lead and engage diverse teams in a collaborative manner.
Resilient and resourceful, with the ability to remain focused and deliver in the face of pressure.
Ability to inspire, work with efficiency, excellence, flexibility, and in good humour
