Research Assistant

Reports to: Research Supervisor

Key Relationships: Staff, volunteers, interns and clients at HELP.

Key External Contacts: Stakeholders (including partner NGOs, Law Firms, Corporate Partners, funders)

Key Responsibilities:

●Assist in reviewing the literature, such as academic journals, books/book chapters, public policypapers, relevant administrative and procedural laws, NGO reports and survey results, useful for the research.

●Writes draft of the review of the literature, research notes, summary of findings and observations from the reviews conducted

●Assist the lead investigator in conducting face-to-face interviews with research respondents,NGO partners, and stakeholders

●Organize research respondents, partner NGOs, and stakeholder organizations into online or in person discussion groups

●Transcribe audio and video interviews into English, and organize them for easy reference

●Assist the lead investigator in managing the data, such as sources/references, audio, video andtranscripts, collected from the research

●Assist the lead investigator in analysing data, transcript of interviews, and observations and findings of the research

●Organize meetings and appointments with research respondents, collaborators, consultants, and government agencies

●Performs other task assigned by the lead investigator/project supervisor

●Work on some Sundays

Qualifications and skills

●Bachelor’s degree, preferably either on Social Science or Law, with strong interest in research

●Fresh graduates are welcome to apply

●Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills

●Knowledge and experience on responsible conduct of research in Social and Behavioural sciences is an advantage

●Experience in conducting and writing research is an advantage but not required

●Able to manage time, duties and responsibilities at work, and meet deadlines on tight schedule

●Strong interpersonal relationship skills, ability to work collaboratively, open-minded, willing to learn and discuss new ideas and perspectives

●Ability to make judgement call on disclosing conflict of interests in relation to the research being conducted

●Comfortable in engaging with employers of the migrant domestic workers (MDWs) with diverse backgrounds

●Comfortable being around and working with MDWs from South and Southeast Asia

●Ability to handle situations that are sensitive, especially in dealing with vulnerable adults,victims of human trafficking, and sexual violence

Language and other skills

●Proficient in spoken and written English

●Proficiency in any of Southeast Asian languages, Filipino/Tagalog and Bahasa Indonesia ispreferred but not required

●Knowledge and skills in audio and video production is an advantage
