Roles and Responsibilities of the Board

WISE is looking for Board Members to join us starting in Q3 2025. The below is a general description of the expectations of a director of WISE. Board members are expected to advance WISE’s mission and goals to the best of their ability pursuant to the following:
General Responsibilities:
● Organizational governance
● Capacity planning and resource management
● Long-range planning
● Financial oversight
● Evaluation of the organization
● Fundraising
● Public relations
● Board training and development
● Advocacy in the community at large for the organization and its mission
Time Commitment:
The WISE Board meets bi-monthly on a pre-agreed time and date. Board Members should attend at least 75% of meetings in one year and miss no more than two consecutive board meetings. There may be other meetings, such as Committee meetings and strategy sessions. Board Members will also be expected to attend at least one fundraising activity in one year.
Fundraising Activities:
All WISE Board Members shall assume some responsibility for fundraising and agree to assist in identifying and evaluating prospective donors.
Resources and Recruitment Expertise and Network:
WISE Board Members support WISE by drawing on their professional experience, skills, and contacts to suggest potential donors, supporters, sponsors, consultants, advisors, and board members.
Commitment to Chair Committee(s) and/or Lead Projects:
As a small not-for-profit organization, WISE is often under-resourced. At times, Board Members may need to get involved in leading specific committees and/or projects and help facilitate the operations of the organization. Board Members agree to identify a committee, program, project, or task to which they will commit themselves, and where appropriate, to chair or lead that committee, program, project, or task at a future time.
Communication:
WISE Board Members should maintain open and transparent communication with other members of the board, organizational management, and the organization’s key stakeholders.
Board Terms:
WISE Board Members will serve for a term of at least two years.

Board Requirements:
WISE Board Members are individuals with functional experience and skills in finance, accounting, business / partnership development, and have been in professional capacities requiring governance, financial oversight, strategic planning, leadership development, team building, performance management and fundraising. Ideally, they have served on boards in other capacities. We value individuals with strong networks, demonstrable abilities in opening doors and connecting us to potential donors / funders be it through private philanthropic foundations, corporates, international schools, individual donors and more.
Being a board member at WISE is hands-on so we prioritize candidates who understand this and are willing to commit the time and energy to roll their sleeves up and get involved. WISE Board Members are passionate about sports for empowerment and believe in the importance and contribution of sport to achieving gender equality and diversity, equity and inclusion in Hong Kong.
